Meet Julia Rubens

LSW, (she/her)

Specialties: child and teenage anxiety, anger management skills, grief and loss (specifically involving parental figures and siblings), trauma, interpersonal relationships, agoraphobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, divorce, and family conflict

"I support children, teenagers, and adolescents as they manage anxiety, navigate relationships with friends and family members, and process life’s challenges and past traumas. I focus on helping children develop their self confidence and self-acceptance, strengthen their interpersonal skills, and navigate conflict and challenges so that they can develop relationships in healthy and safe spaces."

From my experience as a therapist (and as a human), I understand the benefit of having someone to talk to about life’s challenges and events - both big and small. I am here to act as a guide and support as you process events, experiences, and emotions in a manner that increases self-awareness, enhances self image, and strengthens interpersonal relationships. I have worked with clients across all different age groups (as young as two years old) and from diverse backgrounds. I welcome and celebrate folks of all ages, backgrounds, and identities.

In my practice, I aim to understand children and adolescents in relation to their environment rather than in a vacuum. In other words, I believe it is important to understand what is going on in a person’s life (around them) in order to understand what is going on in their internal headspace (within them). My therapeutic framework is strengths-based, trauma informed, emotion-focused and holistic. I explore how stressors in one’s environment can impact one’s view of self, relational style, and way of interpreting the world.

I bring my warmth, humor, and unconditional acceptance to every session, and will act as a guide to understanding your experiences, challenges, and entire self through a combination of talking, playing, and role playing. Additionally, I work closely with parents and caregivers to provide a family-inclusive and child-centered therapeutic experience, which I have found works best for helping children grow and thrive in the therapeutic setting.

I understand that therapy can feel intimidating and nerve wracking (especially for children and teens!), and I am here to help make the experience as calm, comfortable, and supportive as possible. Talking with me is like chatting with a support person who is there to provide you with unconditional positive regard and acceptance.

I look forward to helping you reach your full potential, develop the strengths that you already possess, and to being a part of your journey.

Fees: $175/ 50 minute session
